This psychological thriller with an all-star cast will have you on the edge of your seat. The film stars Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan as a married couple who have recently lost their young son in an accident. Each family member, including their teenage daughter, played by India Eisley, begins the movie consumed in his or her own grief.

Affleck plays a therapist, Philip, who is busy treating patients to avoid his own pain. One particularly vulnerable patient of his becomes central to the plot. This troubled woman, named Daphne, faces a sudden loss and, in response, commits suicide.

In the wake of her unexpected death, her brother shows up on the scene. Played by Sam Claflin, the charming and handsome brother begins to insert himself into Philip’s family. He becomes troublingly close to both the teenage daughter and Philip’s wife while launching a covert campaign that will cost Philip his job.

As the movie intensifies and the plot thickens, it becomes clear that Philip and his family are in real danger. If you are in the mood for a great cast and a tense psychological thriller, you’ll enjoy Every Breath You Take.

This film by Rian Johnson, director of Last Jedi, was a huge success with fans and critics alike. This comedic whodunnit mystery has a star-studded cast, with the likes of Jaimie Lee Curtis, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, and Lakeith Stanfield, among others. It gives you the feel of a classic Agatha Christie tale that’s been updated for the modern American audience.

To get the film started, a rich mystery novelist dies unexpectedly a few hours after a party where his whole family was present. The house is full of both the wild characters the novelist is related to, as well as the housekeeper and detectives on the case. What follows is a fun, modern twist on the classic whodunnit structure.

This movie is great entertainment with superb acting. It doesn’t dip too much into social commentary but rather gives us laughs and thrills as we try to figure the story out along with the characters. This one is a real crowd pleaser and one of the most well-received movies you can stream right now on NOW TV.

4. Midway

IMDb RatingRotten Tomatoes RatingWhere Else to Watch
6.7/1041/100Hulu, Amazon (rent or buy)

Midway is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a wartime action movie. This film is a big-budget production with plenty of heart-pounding explosions and attention paid to World War II events. It comes to you from Roland Emmerich, the same director of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.

The film explores the Battle of Midway, telling the story from the American perspective. The digital techniques available to filmmakers these days have made Midway an action-packed, visually engaging story. There are plenty of jaw-dropping scenes of fighter pilots battling it out in the air, with explosions and obstacles constantly coming their way.

History buffs will enjoy that this film is based on the true events of this World War II battle, but just about any moviegoer can appreciate the stellar cast of this film. This film is certainly well cast and superbly acted with well-loved figures like Woody Harrelson, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Patrick Wilson, and Ed Skrein.

5. Music

IMDb RatingRotten Tomatoes RatingWhere Else to Watch
3.1/108/100Amazon (rent or buy)

From the chart-topping pop star Sia comes this musical that combines the reality of daily life in New York City with a brightly colored, well-choreographed fantasy world. A buzzcut-sporting Kate Hudson plays the main character of this story. Her name is Zu, and she’s a young woman who’s recently clean and sober.

Through the death of her grandmother, she comes to be the caretaker of her younger sister, who has autism. The sister, Music, is non-verbal, and Zu isn’t sure how to begin to take care of her and her special needs.

The film has been criticized as an insensitive interpretation to those living on the spectrum. Some were outraged that the actor chosen for Music was neurotypical. Others were annoyed that Music’s character just seems to exist as a plot device to tell the story of her neurotypical sister.

Whatever your view of the controversy, the fantasy world where Music and Zu sing and dance together is a visual feast. The film features ten new, original songs from Sia. The bold, colorful costumes seen in the music scenes are fantastic. The choreography and artistry of these scenes don’t disappoint. Fans of Sia are likely to love this musical fantasy world.

6. Oslo

IMDb RatingRotten Tomatoes RatingWhere Else to Watch
6.6/1075/100HBO, Amazon (rent or buy)

HBO has transformed this award-winning play into a film that tells the story of secret peace talks between Israel and Palestine in the early 1990s. Through the framework of a neutral Norwegian couple that facilitated the talks, this movie dives deeply into the issues and perspectives of each side.

With flashbacks and other cinematic tricks, this film is able to bring to life the perspective from both sides. It gives the viewer a new look at this contentious issue, giving it a narrative framework that can make complex material more accessible for audiences.

For those who’ve seen the stage version, the film is a fresh take with a new script. The play usually ran around three hours, while this version is around two. The dialogue has been simplified and cut down to give the story a tighter focus.

For those interested in geopolitics and cinematic takes of historical events, Oslo is a great choice.

7. Summerland

This story follows Alice, played by both Gemma Arterton and Penelope Wilton, on an emotional journey as World War II goes on in the background. The story is sweet and heartwarming, and this film is a great choice if you are looking for a bit of whimsy and rebirth.

Alice is a bit of an outsider in her small town near Kent, where she lives alone and separate from the rest of the small-town society. She is busy investigating and writing about concept folklore, the perception of miracles, and the possible existence of an afterlife known as “The Summerland.”

Life as she knows it is completely shifted when a young evacuee from London comes to live with her. This young boy, Frank, played by Lucas Bond, helps Alice rediscover herself and her joy for life. Through their interactions, we learn of Alice’s past heartbreak and join her on her journey of rebirth.

This film is a warm, feel-good story with great acting, beautiful scenes, and fantastic costumes. If you’re in the mood for some emotional and light historical fiction, Summerland is a good choice.
