Train to Busan is one of the best zombie movies I have ever come across. Many zombie movies lack either a decent plot, decent acting or both but this has it all. Exciting, thrilling, great acting, great characters and just a mix of all the best zombie movie elements. The zombies are more like the zombies from World War Z in their abilities and movement, the acting is as good as any award winning drama or thriller and the action is like a decent Dwayne Johnson movie all with a decent plot to tie it all together. The Plot is easy to follow, martial law is declared in Korea as a viral outbreak engulfs the country, but passengers on the Train to Busan successfully fight off the infection and most now fight to survive. The Best Zombie movie since Shaun of The Dead. This film is available on most Netflix worldwide.

2. Svaha: The Sixth Finger

Svaha can be a tricky movie to follow as you need to really have an understanding of Eastern culture and Buddhism. If you are able to dive down and really get into the complexities, then it is a much better movie. The Artistic nature of the filming is well done, and the characters are great. The Plot basically follows a Pastor Park who is infamous for debunking religious stigma follows the trail of a cult who are connected to a number of dead teenage girls when a body is discovered. Dark and disturbing secrets start to unfold around this cult.

3. Door Lock

Not a supernatural horror but a very scary thriller that I think qualifies. The whole concept is very simple a young woman lives alone in a small apartment when she notices her lock has been meddled with by someone, Later on after she has changed or lock code she hears someone trying to enter. The police do little to help but then more disturbing things start to happen that suggests someone is in her apartment (very chilling scenes of someone hiding under her bed). A murder occurs in the building and she is forced to investigate all these strange going-ons herself. It is a very good film well worth a watch, it is a shame that this film is hardly heard of and also not readily available on many streaming services, it is not even on Rotten Tomatoes and has very little information on IMDB. However, it is available on the Korean Netflix which you can access if you already have a Netflix account. All you need to do is get a VPN service and set your location to Korea. Or go to Korea and open your Netflix.

If you are looking for a chilling, scary and supernatural Korean horror movie similar other Asian horrors such as The Grudge or The Ring then The Mimic is the closest you will get on Netflix. Although this is not as good as many other Asian or Korean horrors it does have a very scary little demon girl, perfect to scare a group of friends on a night in. The movie follows a family that moves to a rural location who 5 years earlier lost their son. The mother one day discovers a girl walking in the forest, seemingly lost and with no identity she takes her in as her own. However, suspicions start to build that she is not human!

This movie is available on the Korean Netflix which you can access with a VPN service.

5. The Host

The first thing to mention about The Host is that it is an earlier film from Bong Joon Ho who has recently made history his film Parasite, the first Foreign film to win Best Picture at the Oscars and to many critics the most perfect movie ever made. The host is also very highly rated being cited as one of the best ever monster movies right alongside Jaws. The Plot is not clever or complicated just very well executed. One day a monster appears from the river and starts picking off prey (people). The Main characters choose to take it upon themselves to hunt this creature. The story follows a family living on the river. Don’t confuse this with he rubbish 2013 movie from Andrew Nicol.

This movie is currently available to watch on the Japanese Netflix which you can access with a VPN service.

6. Kingdom

This is not a movie but I have recently finished watching this entire series and I am waiting for the next season. I had to include it as I think any horror and zombie fan would appreciate this and is widely available on Netflix worldwide. This is Koreans answer to The Walking Dead, an epic zombie apocalypse series.

The show is set in the imperial age (roughly) so it is not a case of guns but swords spears and the occasional cannon and musket. An outbreak of some form of disease where the infected come out only at night to terrorise and destroy. As the hoard makes its way through one Korean village at a time (whilst swelling in numbers) and officials do their best to try and contain it. With many more twists, turns and challenges this series is very entertaining and easy to binge on.  The Zombies (or whatever you wish to call them) are one of the most chilling in any zombie horror in the way they run and then flop down and hide themselves during the day.
