1. Outlander

No Starz original series list can be complete if Outlander isn’t included. It’s one of the most popular Starz original shows on-air right now. People can’t seem to get enough of this love story that seems to defy all odds against them.

I will put in a warning here, though. There are graphic sex scenes and a pretty intense and graphic sexual assault scene near the end of season 2. There isn’t a warning of any kind before these scenes pop up. So, if that is something you’re sensitive to, be careful as you watch.

Born in two separate times, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) find themselves forced into a marriage to keep Claire safe. Little do they know that this act completely turns their lives upside down when they fall absolutely in love with each other.

What started out as a race to get back to her own time of 1945 and a husband who’s waiting there quickly turns into a desperate desire to stay in 1743 with her handsome and brave Scottish warrior.

2. The White Queen

Something that Starz is doing really well is its historical fiction. Whether it’s accurate or not isn’t really the point with these shows. Now, some viewers can’t get past these historical inaccuracies and extremely attractive cast members. However, for those of us who live for the intrigue, this show does the trick. It’s all about the drama and the romance.

The White Queen, in particular, is inspired by the events of England when King Edward IV (Max Irons) ruled. There are three women in this show who are desperate for the crown, but it’s Elizabeth Woodville (Rebecca Ferguson) who wins the king’s heart.

3. P-Valley

Now, this is a bit of a controversial original series on Starz. There are going to be viewers who find it offensive. There is plenty of nudity in this series, so view with caution if you’re not a fan of that.

P-Valley follows the stories and lives of a group of strippers from Mississippi. This series has a lot of deeper themes throughout that make it worth the watch. The characters in the show deal with issues of race and poverty as well as how to handle being poor and black in an impoverished area.

The nudity is going to turn people away, but honestly, the show is about more than just strippers. It’s about humanity and finding our place in the world.

4. Hightown

Drugs are a popular television trope, especially in crime dramas. There are too many people who struggle with addiction, which means they relate to these kinds of storylines. Storylines that focus on the struggle of addiction and the road to recovery are important stories that television needs now more than ever. Hightown is one such story.

This crime drama focuses on Jackie’s (Monica Raymund) journey to sobriety. She makes this decision on her own after discovering a body on the beach of someone who died from a drug overdose. However, her life seems to be turned upside down when she becomes convinced that she has to solve the murder case, regardless of not being a cop.

5. Vida

If you love seeing diverse families on TV, look no further than this series. Vida is a drama that’s all about representing cultures and talking about hard-to-talk-about topics like sexuality.

Vida is about two sisters who are vastly different from each other. These two Mexican-American girls grew up in Los Angeles, CA but moved away from each other. However, after their mother’s sudden death forces them to return home, they learn some new things about her that change everything.

6. Ash vs Evil Dead

Who doesn’t love a good action-comedy? This show is an original from Starz that’s a fan favorite. In fact, fans have been demanding the show return for a fourth season. The comedy perfectly balanced out the show’s gore and horror elements to give the viewers something they truly love.

The show takes place 30 years after the events of the films of the same name. New viewers of the series won’t need to see the films in order to understand what’s going on.

Ash (Bruce Campbell) lives alone and avoids all manner of responsibility he can. As he ignores the thoughts of his past, an invasion of Deadites threatens all of humanity. This means it’s left up to Ash to try and save the world. Again.

7. The Pillars of the Earth

Even though this is an older Starz original, it’s a pretty popular one. This show is based on the novel The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Fans love it for its epic storylines and interesting characters.

The story takes place in a fictional medieval England. War and power struggles are everywhere in this series. Despite these plotlines, the story at its heart is a love story and how these families live through the war and political troubles of the 12th Century.

8. Dublin Murders

Crime shows tend to be pretty successful, so there’s no shock that Dublin Murders is pretty popular on Starz. This Starz original show is a crime series that’s based on Dublin Murder books written by Tana French.

Dublin Murders follows the story of a detective who has a mysterious and shocking past that he’d rather keep to himself. However, when a new murder case turns up, it’s eerily similar to the events of his past. The show focuses on his struggle as he tries to piece it all together without revealing too much about what happened to him as a child.
