This adaption of John Grisham’s best selling thriller novel follows Mark, a young kid who witnesses the suicide of a mob lawyer. He is then hunted by both the mob who intends to kill him and a federal attorney who needs to get some vital information from him. Eventually, he turns to a recovering alcoholic (who is also a lawyer) to help him out. 

The Client will keep you on the edge of your seats throughout the duration of the film. It is filled with tense moments and has just the right amount of drama. With its original storyline and top tier actors, this film is a great pick if you are in the mood for a gangster movie.

Buford Pusser, a Tennessee sheriff, single-handedly cleans up his small town of crime and corruption. In the process, he loses his family and almost loses his own life. While this movie is a bit long, you won’t be able to tell since it is jam-packed with action and car chases. Joe Don Baker gives a powerful performance of the sheriff’s tragic story and delivers the character with a sort of fierceness that is impossible to forget. 

Walking Tall is a perfect choice if you are looking for a classic film that still has enough grit and violence to keep you satisfied.

Although Brick Mansions has a low rotten tomatoes score, the audiences enjoyed this film more than the critics. An undercover Detroit cop finds himself in a tightly run, dangerous city that is surrounded by a containment wall. In order to stop the crime lord from devastating the entire city, Paul Walker’s character, Damien Collier, teams up with an ex-con. 

Brick Mansions has the brilliant acting of Paul Walker and the tension-filled scenes anyone would expect from a gangster movie. Lastly, the chase and fight scenes in this film are something that will get your blood pumping.

Roemello Skuggs and his brother have lived their entire lives surrounded by crime, and eventually, take on the lifestyle themselves when they grow up. After a few years as a high-ranking drug-dealer, Roemellos girlfriend starts to disapprove of his lifestyle, and when the danger of his job starts to heighten, Roemello starts to question his life as well. When the two attempt to get out of the bad scene, the protagonist’s brother won’t let him leave. 

The film does a good job of portraying both sides of the drug-dealing lifestyle, often making viewers attach to the protagonist emotionally. Themes such as guilt, regret, and redemption are present in the story, and the action-packed plot will keep you invested through the entire film. 

6. West Side Story

Although it is a musical, West Side Story is about two people from rival gangs falling in love. The film is riddled with themes of violence and pressure revolving around the criminal lifestyle. West Side Story has vibrant and likable characters who you will find yourself rooting for. Much like West Side Story but with more violence, two members from opposing gangs fall in love – Bobby, a member of the Deuces, and Annie, a sister of the rival gang member. The relationship starts an all-out street war between the two gangs, leaving both sides thirsting for blood and violence. 

This has more of a corny, retro feel that leaves you feeling more upbeat than you should while watching so much violence. The film has a talented cast that brings authenticity to the characters while giving you enough action to keep your attention glued to the story. Deuces Wild is for those looking for a unique and fun gangster movie.

The witty dialogue will keep your smirking throughout the film as the intricate plotline and motives of each character will keep your brain working.
