Our Curiosity Stream Review
Curiosity Stream has to be of our favourite niche streaming services to date. It is often difficult to find premium content on any niche service as many film and TV studios already have deals with Netflix, Amazon or have their own streaming service.
Curiosity stream is lucky as it was created by John S. Hendricks, founder of The Discovery Inc. meaning straight away they would have had a great head start on contacts within many great studios producing ground breaking documentaries. I would think of Curiosity stream as the History Channel, Discovery Channel and the Science channel all rolled up into one.
What I love about this service is that it is so addictive and so interesting to watch, 5 minutes of any programme and your hooked, (maybe not any programme as every service has its cheap nasty content). In addition to this it has a fantastic niche reaching which can also reach just about anyone. Documentaries is not a niche in itself but each genre of documentary is a niche, and then each sub genre is a further niche, and what you end up with is an extremely tailored service for absolutely anyone.
If you were to watch a documentary about robotic technology then straight away it would be able to suggest another robotic documentary available to watch straight away, and with around 500 documentaries/documentary series there is always more to watch within any genre.
Another thing I love about the idea of these purely interesting/educational films is unlike Netflix where you may have heard of all the films and shows and know what you may or may not like, with this you never know what might peak your interest. Discovering new content you have never heard of is so much easier on Curiosity Stream.
The user base is fantastic, the whole family can enjoy this service as Dads will be hooked and kids can learn, and it is also a great service for classrooms. If your a teacher I would recommend putting on a documentary on the last day of term rather than Shrek or The Incredibles which will just melt your the minds of your pupils.
As with any streaming service it is available on Iphone, Ipad, android, apple tv, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Smart TVs (LG, Smasung, Sony, V1210) Xbox One and your standard internet browsers. We cannot guarantee your smart TV will have an app as many older model smart TVs still manage to struggle with many streaming services.
In addition to your 7 day free trial if you go direct to the website you can watch 3 documentaries right now on demand with no sign-up, it is just as easy as clicking a Youtube video. If you are to sign up it is fairly cheap at $2.99 pm or you can go with the really cheap yearly subscription or you can opt for the 4k option. Although more expensive, if you are watching nature programmes then it is highly recommended. Further to this you can also get it through amazon channels meaning if you already have an amazon account you can add as a 3rd party subscription without giving any more payment details or signing-up, our link goes straight to the main website as you have the 4k option and the yearly option.
I am going to have to give this service a full 5 stars as the HD package can be bought at just $19.99 per year, making it the cheapest streaming service, and it has such fantastic content, granted no movies or boxset but that is not what it is for.
